Ranking Liverpool’s Top Six Striker Targets For January Transfer Window, With £38m La Liga Star Top

The best Liverpool striker targets as January approaches.

Liverpool are in clear need of a new striker this January after losing Luis Suarez in a £75m move to Barcelona this summer, and it looks likely that one will be brought in this winter if recent transfer speculation is anything to go by.

The Reds spent big on a host of new players this summer, though the likes of Mario Balotelli, Adam Lallana and Lazar Markovic have not settled in as hoped, and it looks increasingly obvious that further investment is needed.

Daniel Sturridge’s injury has also played its part in derailing Liverpool’s season, but there are options out there for the Reds to add some spark upfront, and here we rank the club’s six main targets from worst to best…

6) Saido Berahino (West Bromwich Albion)

A promising young player, but perhaps one being over-hyped a little too soon, West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino is up there with Brendan Rodgers’ main targets upfront this January according to some reports. Although the 21-year-old has shown plenty of promise in his career so far, replacing Suarez at Anfield looks like a tall order for him at this stage, and he looks a little overpriced as well.

5) Seydou Doumbia (CSKA Moscow)

After some highly impressive performances in the Champions League this season, CSKA Moscow striker Seydou Doumbia is attracting plenty of interest, with Liverpool among the clubs watching him. The Ivory Coast forward certainly looks decent, but there look to be slightly more proven options out there.

4) Gonzalo Higuain (Napoli)

Perhaps a bit expensive at £30m, but Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain is proven at the very top level and certainly a player who could make an immediate impact at Liverpool if they brought him in this January.

3) Edinson Cavani (Paris Saint-Germain)

A highly exciting transfer target, Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani is another big name reportedly being targeted by Liverpool this winter as he is supposedly open to leaving his current club. The Uruguayan has a great scoring record, though he is perhaps the most expensive option out there at the moment, which is always a gamble.

2) Jackson Martinez (Porto)

A top talent and one who would command a big fee, Jackson Martinez of Porto is another player on Liverpool’s radar as the transfer window approaches, though he would cost as much as £40m. Arsenal are also interested, and this highly prolific Colombian may well be worth splashing the cash on.

1) Karim Benzema (Real Madrid)

The most exciting option of all, Karim Benzema has been linked with an exit from Real Madrid and a move to Liverpool for a bargain £38m. The Frenchman has been consistently one of the best strikers in the world in recent years and would undoubtedly add bags of talent upfront for the Reds if these rumours are true, though it’s hard to imagine Real letting him go that cheap.
