Manchester United to spend £100 million next summer

Almost every newspaper seems to be awash today with reports that Manchester United are gearing up for another big summer spending spree with Louis van Gaal being told he’ll have significant funds available in July.

United will be looking to sign Kevin Strootman, Nathaniel Clyne, Mats Hummels and Diego Godin, reports the Daily Telegraph, in what is seen as a continuation of a squad rebuild that started after David Moyes’ failed reign as manager.

Diego Simeone has no intention of selling Godin

However, according to the Daily Mirror, Atletico Madrid boss Simeone has laughed off the suggestion that Godin could be on the move in the summer.

The 28 year old Uruguayan has a £28.5 million release cause and has been linked with the a summer move to the Red Devils, but the Atletico manager has poured cold water on those reports.

The Metro report that United’s record signing is unhappy at Old Trafford and his agent has already held talks with PSG about a switch

However unlikely the move seems di Maria did recently refuse to rule a move out to Paris and said that playing there would be a great experience.

Tim Howard reveals Fergie hairdryer treatment

Tim Howard has given a glimpse of what the famed hairdryer treatment by Sir Alex Ferguson actually involves.

In his forthcoming memoir ‘The Keeper’, Howard recalls Ferguson’s reaction to him conceding from a Thierry Henry free-kick in the 2003 Community Shield against Arsenal.

In extracts quoted in the Daily Mirror, Howard writes: “At halftime, Ferguson just about took my head off…”If you cannae handle the f*****g stage’ – his Scottish accent was coming through loud and clear – “I’ll send you right back to the MLS.”
