The Argentine, a £59.7m signing from European champions Real Madrid this summer, played a key role in the Spanish giants’ victory in the tournament last season, but has had to accept no European football at all after making the move to Old Trafford this season.

United’s disastrous season last year saw them finish in 7th place and miss out even on the Europa League, and while this did not stop them attracting big names such as Di Maria and many others, it now looks as though it is playing on the minds of some of their star names.

In an interview with Sport Magazine, the 26-year-old revealed that he misses playing at that level, whilst also hinting that the club are some way off winning the Premier League title at the moment in this period of transition.

“It is every player’s dream to win the Champions League,” he said.

“Yes, I do miss Champions League football. We will have to do our best this season so that we qualify for next year’s tournament.

“It won’t be easy. But some weeks ago we were seventh or eighth in the table, and now we are fourth. So we have to keep on working.

“The thing we aim for the most is qualifying for the Champions League, which is what this club deserves. I also want to win titles, but I am aware that we will have to go step by step since the manager and some of the players are new.”

These quotes may not sit will with some United fans following recent PSG rumours, with hints that Di Maria is already unsettled despite only joining the club this summer.
