Manchester United Skipper Believes That Red Devils Can Challenge For The Title

Wayne Rooney believes that there is no reason why United can’t compete with Manchester City and Chelsea.

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney believes that the Red Devils can use their six successive Premier League victories as a springboard into an unlikely title challenge, report the Daily Star, as the weekend’s 3-0 victory over rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford continue United’s recent theme of turning mediocre performances into wins.

United’s win over Chelsea kept them within eight points of the league leaders after the weekend’s fixtures, whilst they are five points behind local rivals Manchester City, but with a couple of very appealing fixtures coming up for Louis van Gaal’s side there is every chance that they can keep up the heat on the top two.

This is a view shared by Rooney, who has been in fine form recently and was excellent in central midfield against Liverpool, who believes that if they can string a couple more positive results together then Chelsea and City will begin to look over their shoulders:

“If we can keep picking up points and winning games, then hopefully the other teams will drop points and we can be right in there going into the second half of the season.”

“I think we have to believe we can win the title.”

Manager Louis van Gaal, however, was still critical of facets of the United performance against Liverpool, with the win certainly oweing a lot to the fine performance of goalkeeper David de Gea, as the Red Devils allowed a number of clear chances to their visitors and Mario Balotelli in particular.
