GK: Wojciech Szczesny (Arsenal)

With Liverpool’s goalkeeping situation something of a mess at the moment, Arsenal’s Wojciech Szczesny gets in to this lineup without much of a fight.

DR: Mathieu Debuchy (Arsenal)

A player Arsenal have missed through injury for much of this season, Mathieu Debuchy is surely a stronger right-back all round than Liverpool’s Glen Johnson.

DL: Alberto Moreno (Liverpool)

A slightly inconsistent performer so far, Spanish youngster Alberto Moreno narrowly edges Kieran Gibbs for a place at left-back due to his potential and quality in the final third.

DC: Per Mertesacker (Arsenal)

Not at his best this season, but the German World Cup winner is a generally more accomplished centre-back than any of Liverpool’s unconvincing options this season.

DC: Laurent Koscielny (Arsenal)

Another fine central defender, Laurent Koscielny has been missed by Arsenal this season and is one of the best in the league on his day.

MC: Steven Gerrard (Liverpool)

Far from at his best this season, but Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is still arguably a better choice than a number of Arsenal’s midfielders, including their skipper Mikel Arteta.

MC: Aaron Ramsey (Arsenal)

Another player not on top form, Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey makes up the other half of this weak-looking central midfield duo.

MR: Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal)

One of the best players in England this season, Arsenal winger Alexis Sanchez could have been representing Liverpool in this fixture if things had gone differently.

ML: Raheem Sterling (Liverpool)

A player Brendan Rodgers compared to the Chilean, Raheem Sterling takes a place on the left-hand side of this formation.

FC: Olivier Giroud (Arsenal)

An under-rated striker, Olivier Giroud has looked superb since his return from injury and is undoubtedly one of the better strikers on the books at both clubs.

FC: Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool)

A world class finisher on his day, Daniel Sturridge has been a big miss for Liverpool through injury this season and would walk into either side if fully fit.
