Here is how CaughtOffside thinks they will lineup at Villa Park.

GK – David de Gea

The goalkeeper was Man of the Match last time out as the Red Devils beat Liverpool 3-0 at Old Trafford and has been in fine form once again.

CB – Phil Jones

Back in the starting XI – although with his injury history who knows for how long- and is one of the few centre-backs at the club who has impressed.

CB – Michael Carrick

Is acting like the ball playing defender that van Gaal loves to deploy and the presence of Carrick has also seen clean-sheets increase.

CB – Jonny Evans

Completing a three-man central defence is a Northern Ireland international who has received his fair share of criticism in recent times.

RWB – Antonio Valencia

Although Rafael is available this usual midfielder is settling well into a wing-back role and should be retained by van Gaal.

CM – Darren Fletcher

Was made vice-captain this season but has barely featured and although it’s not certain we think with Marouane Fellaini out the Scot will get a rare chance.

CM – Ander Herrera

Partnering Fletcher in the middle is the more adventurous Herrera who has looked good since his £29m summer move from Athletic Bilbao.

LWB – Ashley Young

Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo and Luke Shaw are all injured so left-back options are limited, meaning Young will be able to continue to show why he should be there.

CAM – Juan Mata

With Angel di Maria absent in recent times – the Argentine is likely to be on the bench for this one – Mata has been impressing in the No.10 role and will stay put.

ST – Robin van Persie

The Netherlands international has found some scoring form in recent times and is probably United’s most reliable striker currently.

ST – Wayne Rooney

Rooney has been solid since being appointed as skipper and although played in midfield against the Reds, should push further up the field in place of youngster James Wilson.
