Stephan Lichtsteiner To Man United Back On Despite Juventus Contract Talks

Manchester United could be set to renew their interest in Juventus defender Stephan Lichtsteiner…

Reports in the Daily Express are claiming that Manchester United are still in with a chance of signing Juventus star Stephan Lichtsteiner despite claims that the defender is on the verge of penning a new contract.

The Swiss full-back has the experience that manager Louis van Gaal is looking for, as the Dutchman looks to reinforce his back line in the January transfer window, and put life into a late Premier League title bid.

Recent claims suggested that Lichtsteiner was close to agreeing a new deal with the Serie A champions, but today it has been suggested that negotiations are far from finished.

The 30-year-old is still seeking assurances over a key role in the starting XI, and could yet quit Turin this winter, if United meet the Champions League side’s asking price, believed to be around £20m – an extravagant price for a player of his age.

United have struggled with injuries this season, with Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo, Jonny Evans and Luke Shaw among those to have been sidelined this year, while they are yet to truly replace the departed trio of Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra.
