Liverpool’s January Goalkeeper Options Reduced As Roma Swoop

Liverpool may now have to look elsewhere…

According to Italian transfer site CalcioMercato, Roma have made an offer to Fiorentina’s goalkeeper Neto.

The Brazilian goalkeeper, who has been linked with Liverpool in recent days, has apparently been offered €1.8m a year to make the switch to the Eternal City.

Neto is out of contract this summer, so clubs are able to offer him pre-contract deals in just a few days time. Roma’s offer is to the player only, so they would not be able to use the stopper until next season.

Liverpool may still be able to upset the deal by offering Fiorentina a fee for the player. They would then be able to use him from the moment they register him – a day that can’t come too soon considering the fact that Simon Mignolet has recently been dropped for disaster-zone Brad Jones in recent games.

Roma keeper Morgan de Santis was outstanding for the side from the capital last term, but has been in awful form since, and it’s no surprise they are looking to replace him after just 18 months.

His blunder in the Champions League at a last-minute CSKA set-piece allowed the Russian side to score, a moment which went on to have huge after-effects in the competition, with Manchester City eventually going through at the expense of the Italian side.
