Read the full Chelsea ratings below:

GK) Thibaut Courtois – 6

Could do nothing about the Southampton goal, and otherwise had a quiet afternoon.

RB) Branislav Ivanovic – 6

James Ward-Prowse caused him some problems, but it was still a decent afternoon for the Serbian.

LB) Filipe Luis – 5

His general defensive play was solid, but his passing, crossing and choice of delivery was poor.

CB) Gary Cahill – 7

Solid at the back as always, made several crucial blocks and interventions in the first-half.

CB) John Terry – 6

Caught out for the goal, but even the best defenders are allowed the odd mistake.

CM) John Obi Mikel – 6

Did his job at the heart of Chelsea’s midfield, but was replaced with 15 minutes to go at the Blues chased a winner.

CM) Nemanja Matic – 7

A strong performance, but perhaps not at his imperious best, with Southampton’s midfield working extremely hard.

AM) Cesc Fabregas – 7

Deserved a penalty, but was instead booked for diving. Made the goal for Hazard with some nice play.

RW) Andre Schurrle – 5

Another poor afternoon for the German, replaced at half-time. His days at Stamford Bridge look numbered.

LW) Eden Hazard – 8

Never stopped looking for the ball, and used it effectively. Deserved his goal, and was the standout performer.

ST) Diego Costa – 6

Toby Alderweireld did an excellent job of keeping him quiet, and he was replaced with a couple of minutes left.

Manager: Jose Mourinho – 7

His team dominated the final hour, and he’ll be frustrated not to have taken all three points. His decision to leave out Cesar Azpilicueta will raise some eyebrows.

Subs:

1) Willian – 6 – Did a better job that Schurrle, but didn’t offer enough

2) Didier Drogba – 6 – Thrown on ahead of Remy, and came close to snatching a winner from close range

3) Loic Remy – 5 – Came on for the final couple of minutes, but Chelsea were left frustrated
