Manager Louis van Gaal revealed this when speaking after the Mancunian club’s 0-0 draw with Tottenham on Sunday. The midfielder’s guile may have been missed by the Red Devils as they struggled to get past the Spurs defence.

The summer signing has been on the sidelines since the reverse fixture against Stoke on 2 December, but now seems ready to help out a squad that has recently been hit by the news that Angel Di Maria has been ruled out for the foreseeable future. Having three games in a week seems to have stretched United, and the Spaniard will be welcomed back with open arms.

“Ander will be coming back this week,” confirmed the 63-year-old.

The Red Devils go up against the Potters looking for a win after drawing their last two matches against Aston Villa and Tottenham. They will need to take the three points from the Britannia if they want to back up their manager’s claim that they can challenge for the title.
