Manchester United transfer news

GK) David de Gea

Not the busiest game for David de Gea, and he didn’t get much help from his defenders for Stoke’s first goal. 6.5/10.

DR) Ashley Young

Despite a fine recent run of form at left-back, Ashley Young was less effective on the right-hand side. 6/10.

DL) Luke Shaw

Returning to the team after a spell out injured, Luke Shaw continued to look somewhat out of depth for the Red Devils. 6/10.

Stoke City news

DC) Phil Jones

Poor on the first goal by Stoke, Phil Jones offered little for United in this game, not looking solid enough at the back. 5.5/10.

DC) Chris Smalling

One of United’s better defenders in this game, Chris Smalling was solid enough as the main centre-back in the three-man backline. 7/10.

DC) Jonny Evans

A player who has looked worryingly error-prone for much of this season, Jonny Evans had a difficult time again today. 6/10.

DM) Michael Carrick

Not at his most effective best, but Michael Carrick controlled the midfield well and got a touch to assist Radamel Falcao for the goal. 7/10.

MC) Juan Mata

Stifled somewhat by Stoke City’s tough-tackling midfielders, Juan Mata was not able to dictate the play as usual. 6.5/10.

MC) Wayne Rooney

Similar to Mata, Wayne Rooney did not have his best game for Manchester United as he continues to adapt to his new midfield role. 6.5/10.

FC) Radamel Falcao

Grabbing himself a good poacher’s goal, Radamel Falcao looks like steadily improving for Manchester United, but he could not inspire the side to victory today. 7.5/10.

FC) Robin van Persie

Very quiet again this week, Robin van Persie has had two ineffective games in a row now and that will be a concern for the Red Devils. 5.5/10.
