Off The Bar! Premier League’s Leading Woodwork Strikers In 2014, Including Current and Former Liverpool Stars

The players who struck the Premier League woodwork most during 2014.

There are few things more frustrating and more unfortunate in football than hitting the woodwork – seeing a well struck shot come cannoning back off post or bar when it seemed to be flying into the back of the net.

Some players, however, are more unfortunate than others – with the calendar year now having come to an end, these are the four players who struck the woodwork more than any others in 2014:

=2) Wilfried Bony (4)

The Swansea striker ended 2014 as the leading Premier League goalscorer during the calendar year, but he could’ve had four more to add to that tally if it wasn’t for the pesky post.

=2) Rickie Lambert (4)

The experienced England international scored more goals for Southampton last season than he has for Liverpool so far this campaign – perhaps due to the woodwork getting in the way.

=2) Robin van Persie (4)

Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has been criticised for his static displays at times this season, but he has also put together a good goalscoring record – and woodwork striking form.

1) Luis Suarez (5)

Despite leaving Liverpool for Barcelona in the summer, Uruguayan international striker Luis Suarez still struck the woodwork more times during 2014 than any other player – five times.
