Top Six German Stars Who Could Join Arsenal In January – Mats Hummels & Lars Bender Included

Arsenal already have a substantial German contingent at the Emirates, and look likely to add to it with the likes of Lars Bender and Real Madrid’s Sami Khedira linked with a move to North London…

Arsene Wenger has been investing heavily in German talent over the last few years; with the likes of Per Mertesacker, Mesut Ozil, and Lukas Podolski all joining the club. And based on the players Arsenal have been linked with recently, he doesn’t look to be changing his ways any time soon.

The Gunners are badly in need of a centre-back and a defensive midfielder, and with Wenger now spending a bit more freely there could be a number of new faces at the Emirates.

Here are six Germans Arsenal may be targeting this January:

6) Benedikt Howedes – FC Schalke

He may not be the first centre-back on Arsene Wenger’s list, but with Arsenal’s needs so great at the moment, he may not be able to afford to be too picky.

The versatile Schalke star would tick a lot of boxes for the Gunners, and would be significantly cheaper than some of the players linked in recent weeks.

5) Lars Bender – Bayer Leverkusen

A long term transfer target for Arsenal, Arsene Wenger has allegedly already seen a number of bids for the German star turned down.

Having spent years searching for a defensive midfielder, he may be ready to up his bid to get his man.

4) Christoph Kramer – Borussia Monchengladbach

Kramer has been tipped with a move to a number of top clubs this January, and has even been linked to Real Madrid.

Currently on loan from Bayer Leverkusen, he could be on his way to North London soon.

3) Sven Bender – Borussia Dortmund

Brother of Lars Bender, Sven is one of the many players who could be part of the Dortmund exodus after their disastrous season.

A technically gifted but defensively minded midfielder, Bender could be exactly what Arsenal have been missing in recent years.

2) Sami Khedira – Real Madrid

Arsenal were heavily linked with the La Liga star last window, and it looked as though he may join the North London club this January at one point.

The Real Madrid contract Rebel has also been linked with moves to Bayern Munich and Manchester United, but Arsene Wenger will still be positive about his chances.

1) Mats Hummels – Borussia Dortmund

Dortmund are in the midst of an absolutely disastrous campaign, and could see an exodus from the club either now or at the end of the season.

Arsenal are in dire need of defensive reinforcements, and while Hummels would cost a huge amount, he would certainly add quality to their struggling back line.
