Manchester City are being linked with a January move to sign Schalke playmaker and Arsenal target Julian Draxler, possibly in a swap deal, according to the Daily Star.

The German international has long been linked with top clubs and is now believed to be a top target for Manuel Pellegrini as he seeks to improve the quality of his attack this winter.

Although not an out-and-out striker, Draxler can play upfront and may be seen by City as the solution to their injury problems upfront, which have seen the likes of Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic sit out large chunks of the season so far.

Other targets have been mooted in recent reports, but it could be that Schalke’s interest in Matija Nastasic would pave the way for a swap deal that would see City sign the £25m-rated Draxler.

Nastasic is no longer a regular at the Etihad Stadium and is wanted by former Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo, now in charge of the Bundesliga side.
