Arsenal have apparently targeted Genoa goalkeeper Mattia Perin after Mainz’s Loris Karius turned them down for Borussia Dortmund, reports the Mirror.

The Gunners have recently had problems with former first choice stopper Wojciech Szczesny after he was fined for disciplinary reasons, and dropped from the starting XI for their match against Stoke City. The Pole also made two costly mistakes in his last game, a 2-0 loss to Southampton.

Although David Ospina performed ably between the sticks in the North London club’s encounter with the Potters, manager Arsene Wenger would seem to still be looking for a new goalie. Italian international is one of the best young keepers on the continent, and so would be a great signing. The 22-year-old has impressed while keeping clean sheets against Juventus and AC Milan this season.

The Frenchman has moved his attention to the Serie A ace after original target Loris Karius chose to wait until the end of the current campaign and join Borussia Dortmund on a free. The German under 21’s star had been a former member of Manchester City’s academy.
