Now no fewer than three of those in Brendan Rodgers’ striking armoury have been linked with prospective January exits.

Rickie Lambert

Liverpool paid just £3m for veteran forward Lambert but that hasn’t lessened his failure at the Merseyside club with the England man bagging just one goal in 16 Premier League appearances.

Now Crystal Palace and West Brom are keen on the former Southampton man and one can read into the fact that two relegation candidates are after the 32 year old as an indication of the player’s poor form after two strong seasons in the Premier League whilst on the south-coast.

Mario Balotelli

Balotelli has proven a more expensive mistake than Lambert and the gamble to bring in the notoriously troubled Italian has most certainly not paid off.

One imagines Rodgers would happily accept offers for the 24 year old who is yet to net after 12 Premier League appearances and by all accounts, and perhaps surprisingly, Serie A leaders Juventus are keen on the former Man City and AC Milan man.

Fabio Borini

Not a new signing but the Italian was ushered back into the Liverpool first team set-up following a season on loan at Sunderland.

The 23 year old hasn’t had much of a look-in this term but even when called upon he has failed to make an impact, failing to score in 13 appearances this season.

Black Cats boss Gus Poyet is however seemingly a fan and wants to permanently acquire the former AS Roma man.
