Friday’s biggest stories for the Reds.

Agent of Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuain rules out Liverpool transfer

There have been strong links with the Argentina international, who is reported to be unsettled in Italy currently and looking for a move away.

However, Higuain’s brother and agent, Nicolas, says there is no chance that the 27-year-old will be leaving the Stadio San Paolo.

“Gonzalo is calm, he has a contract with Napoli and he’s not planning to leave because he’s happy,” the striker’s representative was quoted by the Daily Mail.

Brendan Rodgers does not want Lucas Leiva to leave

Despite being strongly linked with a January transfer to Inter Milan, Rodgers has spoken out about the future of his midfielder.

Lucas has been a stalwart in the Northern Irishman’s starting XI in recent times and the manager does not want the 28-year-old to leave the club.

“No, he is not one that we would want to lose. At the end of the season everything is looked at again, but there is a good flow, players are starting to adapt, so I don’t need to disrupt them,” Rodgers was quoted by the Times.

Fabio Borini is glad he didn’t leave Anfield over the summer

There were offers of £14m and £13m from Sunderland and QPR respectively at the end of last season – which were both accepted – both Borini chose to stay and fight for his place.

The Italian has played 13 times since, but is yet to score and yet despite that still insists he has no regrets in choosing not to leave Merseyside.

“I’ve never regretted staying here. Yes, I could have left but I wanted to stay at Liverpool and I’m glad I did,” Borini told the Liverpool Echo.

People must be patient with Daniel Sturridge says Rodgers

There is good news for the Reds as Sturridge is back in training having failed to make a single appearance since late August due to a succession of injuries.

Yet although this a great boost for the team Rodgers says the 25-year-old is going to have to be given time to recapture his brilliant form of last term.

“People have to be more realistic, it will take him time. There is match fitness, football fitness, and that will take a wee bit of time. Just having him on the field to begin with will be critical,” the Merseysiders boss was quoted by the Guardian.

West Ham United confident of winning race to sign FC Barcelona midfielder Alex Song

The former Arsenal star has somewhat reinvented his career whilst on-loan with the Hammers this campaign after two frustrating years with Barcelona.

However, his impressive form has understandably attracted the attention of other clubs and Rodgers is considering a move for the Cameroon international in the summer.

Despite this the Mirror reports that West Ham are still confident they will retain the services of Song themselves.
