Analysing Five Potential Destinations For Saints Star Morgan Schneiderlin, Including Possible Arsenal & Liverpool Transfers

We look at where the Southampton star could be heading this January or in the summer as speculation over his future continues.

With speculation continuing to mount over the future of Morgan Schneiderlin you have to think the Southampton midfielder could be one of the big name stars on the move in the summer of even this January.

But where the Frenchman ends up is a tantalising and as yet unknown prospect as he seems to have been linked with a host of clubs throughout the season since a touted move to White Hart Lane never materialised in the summer.

We look at the five likeliest destinations for Scheneiderlin below:

5) Manchester United

United are one of the newer names said to be in the market for the Southampton man, presumably his performance against Louis van Gaal’s side is a key reason for their interest after he put in a quietly commanding display, snuffing out nearly every United attack.

However, you’d expect the Red Devils to initially attempt to target AS Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman who has seemed to be top of their wishlist ever since van Gaal’s appointment last year.

If they target the Roma man, Schneiderlin’s future may have already been decided before they can even act on their interest.

4) Liverpool

With the looming departure of Steven Gerrard on the horizon, Liverpool could do worse to follow up their reported interest in Morgan Schneiderlin with a firm bid to test Saints resolve.

Schneiderlin would add that dominating presence and help at least partly fill the void their talisman will leave when he departs for the MLS in June.

3) Tottenham Hotspur

Schneiderlin looked to be going on strike after a touted move to Spurs never came to pass and the Frenchman wasn’t allowed to be part of the great Southampton exodus of 2014.

He has since bucked down and forged a successful season with Saints, whereas Spurs have looked particularly listless in the middle.

However, Pochettino’s men look set to return for him in the summer with the Argentine coach still wanting him as part of his revamped Spurs side.

2) Arsenal

Arsenal, however, look one of the likeliest destinations with some suggestions that a £25 million agreement is already in place for the summer.

Whether that particular rumour is true or not, the Gunners could do with a player of Schneiderlin’s presence and quality in their brittle centre which has been their downfall for many a season now.

The Saints man would add much needed steel, verve and even a touch of creativity to make the Arsenal midfield one of the most balanced in the Premier League.

1) Southampton

It still is likely Schneiderlin could remain at Saints, particularly as Ronald Koeman’s men continue to defy expectations in the league.

If the south coast side were able to get fourth place at the end of the season, then the Frenchman’s desire to play in the Champions League could be easily fulfilled by his current club and see Southampton develop into an unexpected, European contender. An exciting proposition indeed.
