White Hart Lane boss Mauricio Pochettino has long been linked with a move for his former Saints charge Schneiderlin though this source claims that such a move is unlikely and as such the north London side have switched the focus of their attention to Republic of Ireland international McCarthy.
Pochettino doesn’t appear to hold the likes of Paulinho and Moussa Dembele in high regard with neither player seeing much first team action with the Argentine opting instead to predominantly use Ryan Mason, Etienne Capoue and Nabil Bentaleb as his central midfielders.
Everton paid £13m for McCarthy and the 24 year old may well be considering his options given his side’s poor Premier League form and a move to Spurs may tempt the former Wigan Athletic man.
Roberto Martinez’s side sit just three points above the relegation zone and are unlikely to secure European qualification and one imagines that Tottenham’s push to capture McCarthy would be aided if they managed to achieve a Champions or Europa League berth for next season.
