Manchester United are edging towards completing a deal to sign Galatasaray playmaker Wesley Sneijder, according to The Express.

The 30-year-old had been linked with a move to Juventus, but Tuttomercatoweb report that the Serie A champions are only willing to pay an £8m transfer fee, while Gala’s asking price stands at £15.6m.

As a result, Juve appear to have switched their attention to Hoffenheim star Roberto Firmino, leaving United in pole position to land Sneijder.

The Red Devils are reportedly willing to pay the full £15.6m for Sneijder, who has been rumoured to be on United’s radar for many years.

Sneijder moving to Old Trafford would see the former Real Madrid and Inter Milan midfielder link-up with Louis van Gaal once again. The pair worked together with the Dutch national team between 2012 and 2014.

Although Sneijder would undoubtably add quality to United’s squad, it is difficult to imagine exactly where he would fit into Van Gaal’s team.

One possibility would be for Sneijder to form a four-man midfield with Juan Mata, Angel Di Maria and Wayne Rooney.

Sneijder is the Netherlands’ third most capped player ever, having made 111 senior international appearances – 19 fewer than record-holder Edwin van der Sar.
