The Brazilian is out of contract at the Nou Camp at the end of the season.

Manchester United are confident that they can complete a deal to sign experienced Barcelona and Brazil right-back Dani Alves on a free transfer at the end of the season when his contract expires, report the Express, with current Old Trafford goalkeeper Victor Valdes set to convince his former Nou Camp teammate that a move to the Premier League giants is the right one.

Former Sevilla star Alves, who has been one of the most exciting attacking wing backs in world football over the last decade, looks set to leave Barcelona in the summer after manager Luis Enrique told the board not to renew his contract – a brave decision considering the transfer ban currently looming over the Catalan club.

Alves is not set to be short of options, considering his impressive reputation in La Liga, but van Gaal has earmarked him as the ideal player to slot in on the right hand side of the Dutchman’s system, which requires his wing backs to possess the very same attributes that Alves has wowed football with during his career.
