Arsenal’s £15m Signing Is Good News For Manchester United

Why this Arsenal deal could benefit Man United’s transfer plans.

Arsenal’s imminent deal to sign Villarreal defender Gabriel Paulista could see the club end their interest in Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels, according to the Daily Mail.

The Gunners have supposedly agreed a deal in principle to bring the highly-rated Brazilian from La Liga to the Premier League this winter, with Hummels proving over-priced at around £25m.

This could be good news for United, however, who are also long-time admirers of the German international, who has won two Bundesliga titles with Dortmund and who was also part of his country’s World Cup-winning side in the summer.

One of the top centre-backs in the world, Hummels may now be an easier target for the Red Devils as they will face less competition for his signature, with Arsenal happy to add Paulista as a backup to the likes of Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker.

Still, United are also considering a move for Aston Villa’s Ron Vlaar as another alternative, with the Dutchman likely to be much cheaper.
