The newspaper state that Lambert has revived his bid for winger Sinclair from Manchester City, and has stepped up his interest in the hope of securing the attacker’s signature before Monday night, with talks having resumed in the past 48 hours.

Lambert believes the 25-year-old could play an important role in helping Aston Villa to avoid another relegation battle, and has been the Villa boss’ primary target this month.

City would prefer a permanent move rather than a loan deal; however, their asking price of £3.5m has been problematic for the Claret and Blue outfit.

Nevertheless, a loan agreement for the rest of the season now seems more likely which would include a view to a permanent deal in the summer.

Negotiations could reportedly be concluded before Aston Villa’s visit to Arsenal on Sunday.

The former Swansea star is desperate to an escape from the reigning Premier League Champions having made a meagre two starts in the league since signing for £6.2m in August 2012 from Swansea.
