Liverpool may leave Steven Gerrard and Mamadou Sakho out after Tuesday’s result against Chelsea…

Liverpool host West Ham United on Saturday, looking to continue their push towards the Premier League’s top four. Brendan Rodgers’ side currently sit a point behind their weekend visitors, but have lost just one of their last ten league games.

With a five point gap separating the Reds with the top four, a win is a must for both teams. Here’s the side we expect Liverpool to start with:

GK) Simon Mignolet

Has continued to improve in recent weeks and was arguably Liverpool’s star player against Chelsea on Tuesday.

RCB) Emre Can

Has regularly impressed since his move to centre back, but could have his hands full against the Hammers.

LCB) Glen Johnson

With Mamadou Sakho missing a day of training after limping off against Chelsea, we expect Johnson to step in.

CB) Martin Skrtel

Will be pleased to see the back of Diego Costa and will be hoping to get back to his best against West Ham.

DM) Lucas Leiva

The Brazilian is one of the first names on the team-sheet at the moment and will be doing his usual job here.

MR) Lazar Markovic

He was quiet against Chelsea and will hope to have the chance to push forward more against the Hammers.

ML) Alberto Moreno

The young Spaniard was excellent against Chelsea as he bombed forward down the left, more of the same needed.

CM) Jordan Henderson

Henderson will likely take the captain’s armband in Steven Gerrard’s absence. He’ll need to boss the midfield here.

RAM) Adam Lallana

Gerrard is unlikely to start after playing 120 minutes in mid-week. Lallana didn’t play at all, so should step in.

LAM) Philippe Coutinho

The Brazilian has been excellent so far this season and will be at the hub of their attacking efforts again here.

ST) Raheem Sterling

Daniel Sturridge is closing in on his long-awaited return, but should only be fit enough for the bench this time.
