Mauricio Pochettino is said to have been impressed with the 19 year old after sending scouts to watch him following his brilliant displays in the U20 South American Championship, reports the Daily Mirror.

Whilst the youngster has yet to fully establish himself at both club and international level he has managed one full cap for Argentina.

However, the north London side could face competition from Atletico Madrid who are also scouting the player.

Diego Simeone’s pursuit of Mammana may be aided by the fact that his son, Giovanni, plays alongside the defender for both club and country.

Spurs appear to be on the lookout for back-up defensive options with reports at the weekend claiming Pochettino was also targeting FC Koln defender Kevin Wimmer.

Pochettino is seemingly keen to offload Vlad Chiriches or Younes Kaboul to make room for a defensive addition or two.
