1) Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund)
One of the best attacking midfielders in the world, Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus is still wanted by United and a host of other clubs despite just signing a new contract.
2) Mats Hummels (Borussia Dortmund)
In a possible double raid on Dortmund, Mats Hummels is another priority target for the Red Devils as they seek a top class signing to improve on their youthful options in defence.
3) Marquinhos (Paris Saint-Germain)
Failing that, Paris Saint-Germain starlet Marquinhos is another superb defensive player on van Gaal’s agenda, with the club understood to have failed with a bid to sign the Brazilian centre-back in January.
4) Nathaniel Clyne (Southampton)
One of the best right-backs in the Premier League this season, Southampton star Nathaniel Clyne has long been touted as a top priority target for United as van Gaal seeks to replace the likes of Rafael and Antonio Valencia.
5) Kevin Strootman (AS Roma)
Another long-term target for United, AS Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman remains van Gaal’s main candidate to come in and strengthen the team’s midfield options.
6) Paulo Dybala (Palermo)
A young striker in superb form this season, Paulo Dybala is also on United’s radar at the moment after his fine displays have also attracted interest from Arsenal.
7) Mauro Icardi (Inter Milan)
Another top Serie A youngster, Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi is another potential new addition upfront as van Gaal ponders replacing the under-performing Radamel Falcao.
8) Memphis Depay (PSV)
Finally, United are also keen to snap up exciting young Dutch winger Memphis Depay from PSV, though Tottenham Hotspur are also big admirers of the 21-year-old, who has been compared to Arjen Robben.
