The 24-year-old star, who has four caps for Germany, only agreed a new deal in December, but signed a new deal which will keep him at the Bay Arena until 2020.

This season Bellarabi has played every single league game for the club, rejecting moves to England with Chelsea and Liverpool in favour of continuing his development at the German side.

“I’ve made a giant leap forward in the current season under coach Roger Schmidt in terms of my development,” he said.

“Under his direction and in his system I have become a much better player. I’ve never enjoyed such trust as that which Roger Schmidt gives me. I will do everything to repay him and Leverkusen”.

Leverkusen are currently sixth in the table and are trying to close in on the Champions League places.
