1) Everton – The School of Science
A strange nickname more often used to describe Everton’s training ground, The School of Science is also listed as one of their nicknames, alongside the more commonly used ‘Toffees’.
2) Manchester United – The Red Devils
Yes there’s a Devil on the crest, but this is a nickname no Manchester United fan has ever actually used in real life…
3) Real Madrid – The Vikings
“Vikings stars Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale…” – no, me neither.
4) Atletico Madrid – The Indians
Normally shortened to ‘Atleti’ by their fans and opposition supporters, Atletico Madrid are also curiously known as ‘Indios’ or ‘Indians’.
5) Manchester City – The Citizens
Football Manager fans might know this nickname, but it has almost never been heard being used by anyone outside it when describing Manchester City.
6) Middlesbrough – The Smoggies
Middlesbrough, normally just shortened to ‘Boro’ are apparently also known as ‘The Smoggies’, which perhaps isn’t too hard to work out, but which clearly hasn’t caught on.
7) Napoli – The Little Donkeys
An amusing one from Napoli, which they clearly didn’t use as the theme of their 2015 club calendar…
8) Leeds United – The Peacocks
A nickname never used to describe Leeds United, which is perhaps understandable as the club don’t exactly strike up the image of beautifully coloured birds…
9) Aston Villa – The Villans
Another one only ever used on Football Manager, Aston Villa are almost always shortened to Villa, and never ‘The Villans’.
10) Inter Milan – The Big Grass Snake
Another amazing one from Italy, Inter Milan have a number of more obvious nicknames, but supposedly also go by ‘The Big Grass Snake’.
11) AC Milan – The Screwdrivers
One of the most famous football clubs in the world, but I bet you didn’t know AC Milan are also known as ‘The Screwdrivers’ by a (small) section of their fans.
12) Swansea City – The Jacks
Swansea…Swans…there’s a swan in their logo, it all kind of makes sense. And yet, the Welsh side also list ‘The Jacks’ as one of their nicknames for some reason.
13) West Bromwich Albion – The Throstles
Known affectionately as ‘the Baggies’, which in itself is kind of unusual, West Brom also go by ‘The Throstles’ apparently, though there’s a good chance you’ll never hear it uttered.
