Liverpool rumours

1) Pepe Reina

With Simon Mignolet far from convincing this season, one has to wonder if Pepe Reina could still be a better option in the Liverpool goal. Currently at Bayern Munich as a backup, the Spaniard was decent for Napoli last season on loan, even if he looked to be in decline in his final couple of seasons at Anfield.

2) Xabi Alonso

Still a top class midfield playmaker, Xabi Alonso would be another Bayern Munich player warmly welcomed back at Liverpool, especially with Steven Gerrard set to leave at the end of the season.

3) Javier Mascherano

A superb defensive midfielder or centre-back, Javier Mascherano has continued to excel at Barcelona and would add some terrific grit and experience to this Liverpool squad.

4) Luis Suarez

Absolutely unplayable for Liverpool last season, Luis Suarez has not got off to the best of starts at Barcelona and Reds fans might soon begin to dream of luring the Uruguayan back to Merseyside.

5) Alvaro Arbeloa

Not a spectacular player, but a decent, experienced and versatile defender who would be useful for this Liverpool squad that has occasionally looked vulnerable at the back.

6) Daniel Agger

Despite leaving this summer after a clear dip in form, one has to wonder if Daniel Agger could still be a better option for Liverpool in defence than his awful replacement Dejan Lovren, who has flopped badly since joining from Southampton.

7) Fernando Torres

Back on form for Atletico Madrid, Fernando Torres was world class at Liverpool and might just have not fit in right at Chelsea. The Spaniard would surely be better than the likes of Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert, though there’s no doubt it would be a highly controversial move after he quit the club for their rivals in a £50m switch.
