The former Santos star turned down a deal that would have ran until 2017, and with his current deal ending in the summer he will soon be available on a free transfer.

Both Manchester United and Liverpool have been linked with an interest in the Brazilian defender, who has made over 120 appearances for Porto.

The Reds need a new right-back as Jon Flanagan has struggled to return from injury, and Glen Johnson’s contract ends in the summer, meanwhile Louis van Gaal doesn’t appear to rate either Rafael or Luis Antonio Valencia all that highly.

Danilo could be well capable of improving either side, having already made 11 appearances for his national team.

The 23-year-old is not afraid of getting forward, and is also capable at the back.
