Manchester United transfer news

GK: David de Gea

One of United’s best players this season, David de Gea should no doubt continue in goal.

DR: Antonio Valencia

Not an ideal player for the right-back position, Antonio Valencia is surely the club’s best bet in that role for now.

DL: Ashley Young

A surprise performer for United this season, there’s no reason Ashley Young should not continue at left-back ahead of the disappointing Luke Shaw.

DC: Marcos Rojo

A solid defender enjoying a first good season in England, Marcos Rojo should continue as first choice at centre-back.

DC: Phil Jones

A player who may need replacing in the summer, Phil Jones seems the best bet to continue alongside Rojo in defence for now.

DM: Daley Blind

A highly impressive defensive midfielder, Daley Blind may already be a better option than Michael Carrick in this position.

MC: Ander Herrera

A player not given enough of a chance to play regularly by van Gaal, Ander Herrera has to be one of the first choice central midfield players this season after shining whenever he has played.

MC: Angel Di Maria

A player badly struggling for form in the second half of the season, Angel Di Maria has always shone best in this slightly deeper attacking midfield role with freedom to drift wide to the left.

AMC: Juan Mata

Another player out of favour with van Gaal for no obvious reason, Juan Mata has put in his best displays as a number ten this season in a midfield diamond formation.

FC: Wayne Rooney

With two goals against Sunderland, Wayne Rooney is now joint top scorer with Robin van Persie this season with ten goals, and has generally outshone the Dutchman in most games he’s played, surely showing that he is being wasted in midfield.

FC: Radamel Falcao

He may only have four goals this season, but Radamel Falcao looked better this weekend with Rooney supporting him, showing great skill to win the penalty. The Colombian is only on loan for a few more months, why not give him a proper, extended run in the team?
