Man Utd’s Ten Most Valuable Stars – Is Falcao Really Worth £39m?

Which Old Trafford star is worth the most?

Manchester United have had a varied season under manager Louis van Gaal with the Red Devils currently sitting fourth in the table, two points ahead of Liverpool in fifth, but have at times looked unconvincing despite definite improvements compared to David Moyes’ season in charge.

According to website transfermarkt.co.uk, here are Manchester United’s 10 most valuable players this season:

9= – Marcos Rojo £14.08 million

Argentina international Marcos Rojo joined this summer for a fee of £16 million, with Manchester United desperately needing to bring a centre back in to challenge for the first team. Rojo has looked good in fits and starts but still shows naivety in his game with basic defensive errors.

9 – Marouane Fellaini £14.08 million

Followed Manchester United’s previous manager David Moyes from Everton for £27.5 million and came under intense pressure last season for some poor performances in an extremely poor Red Devils side. The Belgian has improved this year, finding a role where he fits into the team under van Gaal, though he has still seen almost £13.5 million wiped off his value.

8 – Luke Shaw £18.48 million

Shaw was injured at the start of the season and as such has only made 16 appearances so far this season, finding it hard to work a way into the first team.

The young full back has performed reasonably, but failed to reach the heights of his Southampton days and, as of yet, has not begun to pay back his whopping £30 million fee.

5= – Ander Herrera £22 million

Another summer signing for Louis van Gaal who has impressed in his 15 appearances, scoring five goals and making three assists, but hasn’t played enough to justify being classed as a key player yet, but a more promising one for United fans.

5= – David de Gea £22 million

The Spaniard has been one of the team’s players of the season, keeping eight clean sheets and pulling off world class saves on a regular basis to keep his team in games. If anything, it’s a surprise he isn’t valued at more.

5 – Robin van Persie £22 million

When the Dutchman moved to Old Trafford under Alex Ferguson, he was in imperious form and struck fear into the hearts of Premier League defenders. In the past two seasons, he’s never really recaptured the golden touch in front of goal, though he is still an important player for the side.

4 – Juan Mata £29.92 million

A player who is criminally under-rated by the Manchester United manager following his £37.1 million move from Chelsea in January 2014. Rated by many pundits as one of the best players in the Premier League, Mata somehow can’t find his way into the team and his form has struggled as a result.

2= – Radamel Falcao £39.6 million

Radamel Falcao has been one of the major disappointments of this season in the Premier League and certainly has not justified his lofty valuation here, scprong a paultry six goals. The Colombian came to England with brilliant records at both Atletico Madrid and Porto, but has fallen flat with Manchester United.

2= – Wayne Rooney £39.6 million

The Manchester United and England captain has been a stalwart throughout his career at Old Trafford and was recently described as a “manager’s dream” by England boss Roy Hodgson. The Merseyside born striker will always give one hundred per cent for whoever he plays and hasn’t been phased by playing out of position in midfield this season.

1 – Angel di Maria £57.2 million

Along with Falcao, di Maria is yet to impress for his new side. His lacklustre performances have been in stark contrast from last season, where he won the Champions League at Real Madrid. So far, hasn’t lived up to his huge transfer fee at all with only four goals and eight assists.
