Iker Casillas – 6

Conceding four goals in a game is never good for a goalkeeper, but if it wasn’t for the veteran his side would be out of the Champions League as he pulled of some great saves and put his neck on the line.

Alvaro Arbeloa – 5 (Nacho 83′)

Lackadaisical performance and being part of a Real Madrid back four which concedes four goals at home deserves a poor rating.

Pepe – 4

Completely embarrassed by Huntelaar on more than one occasion, most notably for Schalke’s fourth when the Dutchman strolled past him.

Raphael Varane – 5

A tough game for the young Frenchman playing with a defensive partner who had a shocker, but he must shoulder some of the blame.

Fabio Coentrao – 5 (Marcelo 58′)

It was easy to tell that Coentrao hasn’t had much football, he provided impetus going forward but as is a common story, forgot to defend.
Sami Khedira – 6 (Modric 58′)

The German is only recently back from injury and, in hindsight, this game wasn’t one to be eased back into. He didn’t contribute too much to the game, but didn’t make too many mistakes.

Toni Kroos – 5

The ex-Bayern man was poor tonight. He recently came out to say he was happy not attacking, he didn’t defend tonight either in a horrific team performance.

Isco – 6

The attacking midfielder had a reasonable game but showed no mettle in the middle of the pitch. Too passive from the Real Madrid man.
Gareth Bale – 5

A game in which the former Tottenham man was practically invisible, providing nothing going forward and even less in defence. Tonight was a time we could see why Madrid fans were jeering the man.

Karim Benzema – 6

The Frenchman goal-getter bagged another goal tonight when he rounded the keeper showing his clinical attacking quality. Did very little else though.

Cristiano Ronaldo – 7

The Ballon D’Or winner got two goals today and was probably Los Blancos’ best player on the night. Had it not been for Ronaldo’s endeavour, his side would likely be out of Europe.

Subs:

Marcelo – 5

A performance which largely went with the theme of Real Madrid’s defence, poor.

Luka Modric – 6

Recently returned from injury and it showed, a passive performance from the Croatian, though he will hope to improve.

Nacho – 6

Only had seven minutes to show anything in the game and couldn’t impress himself on it.
