Six Superb Potential Man United Summer Signings: Mats Hummels, Edinson Cavani On Louis Van Gaal’s Wishlist

Could another summer splurge finally see United get back to the top of the game?

The Daily Telegraph has sensationally claimed that Manchester United could sign as many as four new stars this summer when the transfer window opens, linking the club with six potentially brilliant additions.

See just which players the paper thinks United are after and how they would fit into the Man United team below:

Nathaniel Clyne – Southampton

Louis van Gaal seems to have lost all trust in Rafael da Silva who hasn’t made an appearance in the Premier League since the turn of the year.

The Red Devils are said to have been scouting the 23-year-old over the past year and a half as he continually puts in impressive displays for the Saints.

Aymeric Laporte – Athletic Bilbao

He may only be 20-years-old but Laporte has already managed 70 appearances for Athletic and is built in the modern style of a ball playing, comfortably in possession defender.

Laporte is on course to be on-par or better than the likes of compatriot Raphael Varane and United will have to move quickly if they want to prevent some of Europe’s biggest clubs from snatching the youngster up.

Mats Hummels – Borussia Dortmund

A transfer window cannot seem to go by without Manchester United being like with Mats Hummels and that trend looks set to continue in the summer.

The Red Devils may have a harder time of convincing the World Cup winner now than they would have done several months ago when Dortmund were rock bottom of the Bundesliga.

BVB have since orchestrated a dramatic rise up the league whilst securing the long-term future of key players such as Marco Reus.

Edinson Cavani – Paris Saint Germain

There were rumours under the tenure of David Moyes that United were keen on the Uruguayan and now Louis van Gaal looks set to follow suit.

United can get some clue if the striker can cut it in the Premier League with his appearance at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea tonight but even if keen they may have to fight off their FA Cup conquerers Arsenal who are also thought to be interested.

Kevin Strootman – AS Roma

It would have been the closest thing to a sure bet United would be after Strootman in the summer after a previous transfer window of battering their eye-lashes at one another.

But any potential deal now looks set to tumble like a house of cards following a series of recurrent knee injuries that sees Strootman unavailable until pre-season.

Danny Ings – Burnley

A shock name to add to the potential targets list but one that could make sense given the re-emergence of Wayne Rooney to a striking role.

United have a number of options to play upfront even with the likely departure of Falcao and so why spend big money on a forward who isn’t guaranteed a starting role?

Ings has more than proved his ability this season and would be available for as little as £5 million.
