Chelsea are often linked with a number of the biggest names in world football, and could do well to bring in one big name in each key area of the pitch for next season, adding depth to an already talented squad of players.

These three seem like players Chelsea could do with if they are to make the step up as genuine Champions League contenders…

1) Raphael Varane (Real Madrid)

Valued at around £28m, Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane is known to be a top target for Jose Mourinho after impressing him in his time in charge at the Bernabeu. Manchester United are also interested in the young Frenchman, who could be available in the summer.

2) Mauro Icardi (Inter Milan)

A terrific young striker on Chelsea’s radar in recent months, Mauro Icardi could be an ideal signing to provide more depth upfront as Loic Remy and Didier Drogba don’t look long-term options for the Blues to deputise for Diego Costa.

3) Morgan Schneiderlin (Southampton)

A player linked mostly with Arsenal, Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin could be another wise purchase for Chelsea to provide more in the way of options to rotate with Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas, with the latter looking off-form at the moment and players like Ramires and John Obi Mikel clearly not in the manager’s plans.
