Man Utd and Tottenham hero praises Red Devils wonderkid

Former Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur forward Teddy Sheringham has revealed that he is a big fan of academy product James Wilson and has called on manager Louis van Gaal to give him more opportunities.

Van Gaal cited Wilson as a reason behind the sale of Danny Welbeck to Arsenal, but the young striker hasn’t started a Premier League game since the 3-0 victory over Liverpool in December.

The Dutchman has previously moaned about the lack of goals among his strikers, and Sheringham believes Wilson can provide goals if he is given a chance in the team.

“I really like James Wilson,” he told the club’s official website.

“It’s a shame for him that Radamel Falcao and Robin van Persie are in front of him. Louis van Gaal said recently that he doesn’t have a striker who can score 20 goals a season, but I think if you put Wilson up there with Wayne Rooney then you’d have two players who can reach those figures for you.”

At a time when results are vital, Van Gaal might not see Man United’s current predicament as a suitable time to give an inexperienced forward some game time.

A top four place is vital for Man United which may mean that Wilson will find it difficult to make a contribution to the team for the remainder of the season, with Rooney carrying the burden leading the line for the Red Devils.
