It doesn’t look good for Evian Thonon Gaillard. Not only are the relegation strugglers sitting perilously close to the Ligue 1 drop zone, they also have a play date arranged with Montpellier Herault SC hotshot Lucas Barrios this weekend.
The former Borussia Dortmund striker is one of the French league’s most in-form frontmen at the moment.
Since moving to MHSC and Ligue 1 on loan from Spartak Moscow at the beginning of the campaign, he has averaged a goal every other game.
Worryingly for Evian, however, the striker has hit a purple patch-eight of his ten Ligue 1 goals have come since January 17. He has scored four in his last two matches, including a brace last weekend as Montpellier beat Stade de Reims 3-1.
The Panther opened the scoring in that game with a fine finish from outside the area [see video below], before adding a second from close range.
He will be relishing the rendezvous with Evian, who boast the third-worst defence in the division.
