Potential Barcelona XI featuring players under the age of 25 only

Should financial fair play get it’s way then youth players will get more chances at their respective clubs all over Europe, but in Barcelona’s case it would be more of the same so we look at how they could line-up with players under the age of 25 – which would mean no Lionel Messi.

One aspect of football that the Catalans are very familiar with other than trophies, is producing players through their famous La Masia youth academy. The likes of Lionel Messi, Cesc Fabregas, Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Gerard Pique among many more have all come through the system and gone on to play for the first team at some point.

The team we have picked are not just all under the age of 25 but nine of the outfield players will also be home-grown players and is a team that the La Liga leaders could field at some point in the next few seasons.

Neymar and goalkeeper ter Stegen are the only non La Masia products in this side, which includes current first team players such as Martin Montoya, Sergi Roberto and Marc Bartra.

Take a look at who made the cut in an attacking 3-4-3 system.

GK) Marc-Andre ter Stegen (22)

Yet to make a name for himself in Catalonia, but luckily he has plenty of time to grow and fulfil his enormous potential.

RB) Martin Montoya (23)

Currently the back-up choice to Dani Alves, but that could change in the summer if the Brazilian departs.

CB) Marc Bartra (24)

Has had his fare share of first-team opportunities and has all the attributes to become one of the very best.

LB) Alex Grimaldo (19)

Could benefit from Barcelona’s transfer ban if the first team are in need of a left-back any time soon

MC) Sergi Roberto (23)

Highly-rated by the staff at the Nou Camp, should get more opportunities once the legendary Xavi moves on.

MC) Sergi Samper (20)

MC) Rafinha (22)

Beginning to come in to his own after a spell at Celta Vigo last season, scored his first ever La Liga goal for the club against Villarreal in January.

AMC) Neymar (23)

Has settled after a difficult first season on and off the field in Spain, will be a key player in this Barcelona squad for a long time.
