9) Darren Bent – 106

An underrated goal poacher perhaps, Darren Bent has been frozen out at Aston Villa but has made a good career for himself with 106 Premier League goals, ninth top scorer of players still currently active.

8) Emile Heskey – 110

Currently in the Championship with Bolton Wanderers, Emile Heskey has an impressive tally of 110 goals in the English top flight despite a harsh reputation as a flop at Liverpool.

In his final season in the Premier League, Steven Gerrard still has time to add to his 117 goals for Liverpool at this level – a highly impressive tally for a midfielder.

6) Nicolas Anelka – 125

Still playing though probably never in England again, Nicolas Anelka has 125 Premier League goals to his name playing for a long list of clubs including Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City, Bolton, Chelsea and West Bromwich Albion in England.

Scorer of a beauty this weekend, Sunderland’s January signing Jermain Defoe is still doing it at this level and can add to his 126 Premier League goals, mostly scored in his long association as a Spurs player.

3) Robin van Persie – 144

Some way ahead of those below him, Robin van Persie has an impressive 144 Premier League goals to put him tenth in the overall list and third on this of currently active players. The Manchester United man has done well to keep on scoring despite so many injury problems during his time with Arsenal in particular.

2) Frank Lampard – 176

Another player likely to be in his final season in the Premier League, Chelsea legend Frank Lampard is fourth on the all-time Premier League scorers list – amazing for a midfielder – and second on this list of active players with 176.

1) Wayne Rooney – 185

He may never overtake Alan Shearer in first, but Wayne Rooney is three goals away from going second in the all-time list. With 185 Premier League goals at the moment, the Manchester United legend is first in terms of players still playing.
