Saint-Etienne vs Nantes Ligue 1 match preview: ASSE tightening European grip

AS Saint-Etienne will be looking to bounce back from their French Cup defeat to Paris Saint-Germain as they welcome FC Nantes to the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.

When: 1.00 pm GMT, 12 April 2015

Where: Stade Geoffroy Guichard, Saint-Etienne

ASSE were left disappointed in midweek when they were smashed 4-1 by PSG in the Coupe de France semi-final.

However, they still have a lot left to play for in Ligue 1 and will be keen to tighten their grip on fifth place with a victory over the Canaries in the Loire.

With seven games to go, ASSE sit on 53 points, two ahead of Girondins de Bordeaux and four ahead of Montpellier Herault Sport Club.

Christophe Galtier’s side may even be eyeing an unlikely Champions League berth. They have played one game fewer than AS Monaco, up in third, and would close the gap to two points should they beat Michel Der Zakarian’s outfit.

Nantes have little to play for in Ligue 1; sitting tenth, on 40 points, they are eight points off relegation but too far away from the European places.

They will be without left-back and captain Olivier Veigneau who will be missing with a knee injury, while Georges-Kevin N’koudou is another injury absentee.
