Zlatan Ibrahimovic & eight Ligue 1 players who could make an All-Star XI

With an exhibition match between Europe’s major leagues being mooted, here are some Ligue 1 players who would be in contention to feature for the ‘Southern XI’ and who should at least make the all-star squad!

GK: Vincent Enyeama

Enyeama may be playing at LOSC Lille-not one of the truly big dogs in the French top flight-but he is one of the division’s outstanding players and would be a fine addition to the all-star squad.

DC: David Luiz

A centre-back who cost £50 million and is one of the most recognisable figures in the game, Luiz would surely be considered for his technical prowess and his attacking qualities.

DC: Thiago Silva

And what about the captain of Brazil? Surely Thiago Silva deserves a look-in as one of the truly outstanding centre-backs in the world game.

MC: Marco Verratti

There is doubtless much more to come from Verratti, but he has already demonstrated that he is a talent destined for the top of the game. His competitiveness would ensure that this fantasy match would be a friendly in name alone.

MC: Joao Moutinho

Joao Moutinho is a passer of the highest order, an excellent central midfielder who can keep a ball moving and pick a pass with the best of them.

AM: Javier Pastore

He hasn’t always hit top gear in France, but Pastore is truly finding his form this term. Eric Cantona recently named him as the best player in the world, and that surely is enough to get him a call-up.

FW: Dimitar Berbatov

Ok, ok, so Berbatov may be past his prime, but he brings the kind of flamboyancy that would come into its own in an all-star clash-indeed, there aren’t too many players who were born to play in exhibition matches more than Berba!

FW: Zlatan Ibrahimovic

The Swedish superstar would surely be a shoo-in for the Southern XI – plus, imagine his furious reaction if he was overlooked!

FW: Edinson Cavani

If you were even going to countenance having Zlatan and Berbatov in a strikeforce together, then you’d need someone to do the legwork, and Cavani is that wonderful blend of workhorse and world class forward.
