Liverpool transfer rumours
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers still harbours hopes of Champions League qualification
However, this isn’t always the best idea, with some footballers seeing their careers stall when they moved to these sides.
Here are five players who should watch out for this…
5) Ross Barkley, Everton
Manchester City are interested in a big money move for the 21-year-old according to the Metro. However, the England international should take heed of the very similar story of Jack Rodwell. Also a midfielder, he moved from the Toffees to the Etihad in 2012 but then struggled to get a chance with many injuries and high competition for places. The 24-year-old has since left, and now can’t even get in to the Sunderland team regularly.
4) Nathaniel Clyne, Southampton
Impressive over the last two seasons, Manchester United have been linked by the Daily Express. However, the England international only needs to look at how Dejan Lovren, Rickie Lambert, and Luke Shaw have fared to see that the grass isn’t always greener away from St. Mary’s.
3) Raheem Sterling, Liverpool
Over the last few weeks the midfielder has been linked to Arsenal, also by the Daily Express. However, were he to go to the Emirates it is unlikely the 20-year-old would get as much game time as he does with the Reds, and fans would have far less patience with any mistakes.
2) Mats Hummels, Borussia Dortmund
Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves has already warned his old team not to sign the centre-back they have been linked to, reported Goal.com. Apparently he is too slow and can’t defend, so maybe the German should stay with BVB and keep his great reputation?
1) Paul Pogba, Juventus
When £54 million is spent on one player as the Metro have rumoured will be on Paul Pogba by the Red Devils, a lot of pressure come with it. At just 22-years-old, is the Juve man able to deal with this? It could quite easily crush his career in the same way that Kaka’s was when he moved to Real Madrid for big money after impressing in Serie A. The Brazilian was never the same afterwards.
