Manchester United planning £70m swoop for sensational trio including Southampton star

Manchester United are preparing to splash out £70m on their top targets which include PSV’s Memphis Depay, Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels and Southampton’s Nathaniel Clyne, Times Sport report.

Louis van Gaal is set for another summer spending spree as he aims to take Man United back to the pinnacle of English football. The arrival of Hummels could be made easier with news of Jurgen Klopp’s imminent departure and according to the report, Van Gaal is already preparing a £25m for the World Cup winner.

Clyne and Hummels seem like straightforward moves given Manchester United’s troubles in defence earlier this season, and both would be expected to slot straight into the starting XI should they arrive at Old Trafford.

As for Depay, he’s a promising and prolific winger who was introduced to the world by Van Gaal when Netherlands manager at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, and has since shone for PSV in the Eredivisie this season. A direct and prolific wideman, Depay’s arrival may see Van Gaal revert back to his traditional 4-3-3 system.
