5) Newcastle United, Everton – 2

With the two winners for Newcastle United pictured above – Alan Shearer and Les Ferdinand – the Magpies have produced some big players, albeit not for some time now. Everton too have history with this award, though not since the 1980s.

4) Aston Villa – 3

With their last winner in 1993, Paul McGrath, Aston Villa have not produced a player of that calibre for some time, though famed sexist pundit Andy Gray was one of them during his time at Villa Park.

3) Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur – 5

With five each, it’s north London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur. Pictured Gunners pair Dennis Bergkamp and Thierry Henry are among the winners, with Robin van Persie another recent star. Spurs, meanwhile, have most recently had Gareth Bale win the award twice, plus David Ginola as another from the Premier League era.

2) Liverpool – 6

They don’t produce as many as they used to, but Luis Suarez took the prize last season after a sensational year, while Steven Gerrard is another recent winner and club legends such as John Barnes and Kenny Dalglish also feature.

1) Manchester United – 11

A hugely dominant club in this award, Manchester United have eleven winners since it began, with Wayne Rooney their most recent and huge names such as Ryan Giggs, Cristiano Ronaldo, Roy Keane, Eric Cantona and Mark Hughes also among those to scoop up the gong.
