Marcelo Bielsa’s side were in control and were beginning to measure their next attack, when goalkeeper Mandanda played the ball out to Rod Fanni.

The France stopper called for the pass back, but lost his footing when Fanni sent the ball across the six-yard box.

Togolese forward Gakpe was quickest to react, and while Mandanda leapt up to try and make the block, it was too late. The forward fired the ball into the back of the net, handing Nantes the lead.

The Canaries were buoyed by their goal—in front of their delirious fans—and sought a second as the half wound on.

Mandanda wasn’t the only one to have trouble with the turf, with numerous players on both sides losing their footing in the Nantes attacking third.
