The Gunners have won their last eight games in all competitions since the Champions League defeat to AS Monaco, and have also been victorious in their last eight matches in the Premier League. However, this is a familiar site for fans of the North London club, with the team ending several recent seasons strongly after dropping out of European competition.

With this in mind Merson thinks that the time may have come to either move Arsene Wenger in to a director of football position or get rid of him altogether. This drastic move is driven by the fact that Klopp has announced that he will be leaving BVB at the end of the season. A top class manager being available could tip the balance in the club hierarchy’s decision.

The Sky Sports pundit said: “He’s a good manager and they don’t become available that often. That’s why Arsenal have a massive decision to make this summer. I’m not saying sack Arsene Wenger, but they need to look at the all-round picture.

“Klopp leaving Borussia Dortmund should give them something to think about. Wenger is not getting any younger. If the club decide they want Klopp, then the current boss could move upstairs and help the new manager for a few years.”
