The 29-year-old moved to St James’ Park in 2011, but after three seasons was cast out of the club—sent back to France, where he had previously played for Stade Rennais.

Admittedly, injury problems affected the Frenchman’s time in the North-East, but he demonstrated his class on occasion for the club and was previously on the brink of signing for Liverpool before joining the Magpies.

However, Marveaux departed the club last summer—along with fellow French players Hatem Ben Arfa and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa—as Alan Pardew offloaded some perceived deadwood.

Might the winger have the last laugh?

While Newcastle are struggling under John Carver—currently on a seven-match losing streak and being dragged into the relegation dogfight—Marveaux is flourishing as a central playmaker.

As the Magpies were being defeated at home by Swansea, their loanee was bagging this wonderful effort against Caen.

It begs two questions: firstly, could Marveaux have a future at SJP after this season? Secondly, why did a club let go of a player capable of doing this!?
