The Ukrainian could have joined the Reds just over a year ago, but ended up staying in his home country after drawn out negotiations stalled. This is despite the winger actually wanting to move to Anfield.

Since then the Reds have struggled to find pacy forwards to replace the departed Luis Suarez and injured Daniel Sturridge. Konoplyanka could have been a good player to take this role, with fast movement and direct running a key part of his game. However, with his team doing much better since then the 25-year-old may no longer be on the market.

They play against Sevilla in the Europa League final in Warsaw on May 27. Konoplyanka wants to win Europe’s second biggest club tournament in order to banish the bad memories of his failed Premier League move.

He said: “I am sorry I didn’t join Liverpool when they wanted me but this Europa League final will help me get over that!”
