Reds manager Brendan Rodgers has targeted a new striker when the transfer window opens after seeing his side struggle to come to terms with the departure of Luis Suarez to Barcelona last summer and the loss of Daniel Sturridge to various injuries throughout the Premier League season.

Not a single player in the Liverpool squad has managed to reach double figures for goals in the English top flight and that has ultimately cost them dearly in their bid to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

A switch to Merseyside for Jovetic could be beneficial for both parties as the Montenegro international has struggled to establish himself at the Etihad Stadium since his arrival from Serie A side Fiorentina in 2013 and has only started nine league games this season.

With Sergio Aguero, Wilifried Bony and Edin Dzeko all above the 25-year-old in the pecking order at City Jovetic’s agent Fali Ramadani has refused to rule out a move for striker in the summer:

“Jovetic is happy at Manchester,” he said.

“But there is still a whole summer ahead of us, which means that there will be many weeks of hard work.” Ramadani added.
