Liverpool & Everton combined XI based on 2014/15 performances, with Sterling & Lukaku in attack

Leading Liverpool FC blog Empire of the Kop has posted an end-of-season Liverpool and Everton combined XI, featuring six players from one side and five from another, but which of the Merseyside rivals came out on top?

GK: Simon Mignolet (Liverpool)

Despite a shakey start, Simon Mignolet had some fine games for Liverpool in the middle of the season, helping the club to a long run without conceding a goal and making some impressive reflex saves.

DR: John Stones (Everton)

A superb young defender, John Stones has done well at both right-back and centre-back for Everton this season and deserves his place in this lineup.

DL: Leighton Baines (Everton)

Another fine season from Everton left-back Leighton Baines, who continued to show himself to be one of the finest attack-minded full-backs in the game.

Raheem Sterling will only stay at Liverpool if Jurgen Klopp takes over as manager

DC: Martin Skrtel (Liverpool)

A solid season from Martin Skrtel, who has often looked like Liverpool’s most solid defender, even if the backline have not always functioned as a unit.

DC: Phil Jagielka (Everton)

Solid as ever from Phil Jagielka, who also netted a beauty for the Toffees in their 1-1 draw at Anfield in the early part of the campaign.

MC: Jordan Henderson (Liverpool)

A much improved season from Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson, who has looked a real leader and who could be the club’s next captain.

MC: James McCarthy (Everton)

A player who improves all the time, James McCarthy impressed for Everton again this year with some commanding midfield displays.

MC: Steven Gerrard (Liverpool)

Not at his best, but Steven Gerrard showed he’s still got it with some energetic displays, fine goals and good stats from the Reds’ midfield.

FR: Raheem Sterling (Liverpool)

One of the best young players in Europe without a doubt, Raheem Sterling has been excellent for Liverpool again this season, despite his contract row with the club.

FL: Philippe Coutinho (Liverpool)

Another outstanding young talent on the books at Anfield, Brazilian playmaker Philippe Coutinho really caught the eye for the Reds this season and looks like getting better and better.

FC: Romelu Lukaku (Everton)

Not as good as his first season at the club, but Romelu Lukaku has continued to fire in the goals since joining Everton on a permanent deal from Chelsea.
